Lexapro (Escitalopram)
General information
Lexapro is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRIs). It can be prescribed for treatment of the following conditions: major depression associated with mood disorders, body dysmorphic disorder and anxiety.
Directions
It is recommended to take the medicine as it was prescribed by your doctor. Take it with a big glass of water. Don't cut, crush or chew the medicine. Don't exceed your recommended dose.
Precautions
Contraindications
Pregnant and breastfeeding women and patients with hypersensitivity to Escitalopram can't use it.
Possible side effect
Side effects can be the following: quick and irregular pulse, tremor, anxiety, blurred vision, vomiting, fever, diarrhoea, etc. If you notice the effects not listed here, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Drug interaction
Lexapro can interact with following medicines: MAO inhibitors: Furazolidone, Isocarboxazid, Linezolid, Moclobemide Tranylcypromine, antiarrhythmic drugs(Propafenone, Quinidine), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, H2-receptor antagonists (Cimetidine, Ranitidine, Famotidine, Nizatidine)
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at immediately. The overdose symptoms are chest pain, nausea, irregular heartbeat, and feeling light-headed or fainting.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets.
